Week 8 Film Room - Bucs & Saints OL
For the Week 8 film room I put two elite O-line units under the microscope in the Bucs and Saints. Each unit has three players that should be considered in the top three at their positions in LT Terron Armstead, C Erik McCoy, RT Ryan Ramczyk, LG Ali Marpet, C Ryan Jensen, and RT Tristan Wirfs. Any time this many elite players share the same field in a game it is a special event and after studying their film it did not disappoint.
If you want to see teach tape on double-teams, anchoring, mixing up hands in pass-protection, finding work when uncovered, non-verbal communication, handling the blitz, finishing, and more, this is the film room for you. It simply doesn’t get any more high-level in terms of OL play than what we saw in this matchup.
Some key points that we will cover in this edition of the film room:
Erik McCoy showing why he should be considered an elite center
McCoy winning one-on-one with Vea using elite play strength + tracking 2nd/3rd level targets on the move using elite play speed
Terron Armstead figuring out how to compensate with an injured left elbow
Armstead using the snatch/trap technique to combat the bull-rush + in the run game on a backside cut-off
Cesar Ruiz’s hip mobility, use of hands, and anchor continue to leap off the screen
Ryan Jensen doing what Ryan Jensen does
Tristan Wirfs using variance and power in his hands to defeat a variety of different pass-rush moves
Ali Marpet’s dominant grip strength and anchoring ability creating firm pockets for Tom Brady to operate from
