Week 2 Film Room Short - Bucs RT Tristan Wirfs
Examining a handful of plays from Wirfs Week 2 matchup against the Saints that showcase the rare blend of technical refinement, processing skills and elite physical traits that make him special
As I work through every game each week of the NFL season there are always a few special performances that aren’t given enough attention along the offensive line. I post dozens of videos each week via Twitter and Instagram to shine a light on some of those, but there are a select few that need more of a spotlight to really dissect what is happening.
Bucs right tackle Tristan Wirfs has been an elite player since he stepped on an NFL field as a rookie in the 2020 season, so putting together awesome performances isn’t a surprise, although they’ve become so common that it is easy for many of them to go unnoticed.
Wirfs was matched up against Saints defensive end Cameron Jordan in Week 2 for the sixth time in their careers, most of which have been epic battles that I have studied and posted about extensively. Each have gotten the better of the other with this most recent matchup being a definitive win for the Bucs third-year All-Pro.
Below I break down a handful of clips showing what makes Wirfs a once-in-a-decade caliber tackle; refined technique, adaptability, elite traits and adept processing skills, all of which were on display in this game.
