The Trench Warfare 2022 NFL Draft Film Room - Episode 6 featuring Central Michigan OL Luke Goedeke
Welcome back everyone to episode six of the Trench Warfare film room. This week’s guest is former Central Michigan RT Luke Goedeke. Similarly to last week’s guest and former teammate Bernhard Raimann, Goedeke is extremely new to playing on the offensive line and had a unique journey along the way.
Goedeke began his college career at Wisconsin-Stevens Point before earning a scholarship to CMU as a tight end in 2019. Shortly after arriving on campus he was moved to the offensive line and finished his Chippewa career with 25 starts all at right tackle.
Over the course of an hour Goedeke and I discussed his background in more detail, the traits that make him a high-level prospect and had a blast breaking down a few dozen plays from the 2021 season against Missouri, LSU, Miami of Ohio, Toledo and Ball State.
Here are some additional topics from our conversation:
Goedeke making his own highlight tapes to send off to the Central Michigan coaching staff in hopes of earning a scholarship.
Never having consecutive seasons playing offensive line (injured in 2020).
Highlighting the traits that make Goedeke a sleeper in this class: body control, balance, power, play strength and competitive toughness.
Breaking down what it looks like to stay attached to blocks, refit and maintain leverage through contact.
Goedeke’s love for gap concepts and why he favors it over zone.
Playing at LSU in Death Valley at night.
The joy of imposing your will and moving defenders against their will.
Teach tape example of a ‘Deuce block.’
Goedeke gave a great breakdown for why ‘finishing’ doesn’t have to include a ‘pancake.’
Goedeke’s epic performance against Ball State.
More than anything, Goedeke and I had a lot of fun during our time watching film for this episode and I think that will bleed through as you get a better understanding of him as a person and player.
Outstanding work ,game is still won and lost in trenches......
