The Inside the Trenches Film Room - Ep. 6 with special guest Brenden Jaimes
Brenden Jaimes was a prospect that I discovered late in the process and was one of the more pleasant surprises of anyone I’ve come across due to his refined use of hands, variety of pass sets, and overall savviness to find creative ways to get defenders blocked that was reminiscent of Chiefs OG Joe Thuney.
Jaimes may get moved inside as a pro and has the skill-set to make a successful transition, but will need to improve his adequate play strength before maximizing his potential as a quality starter regardless of the position. After discussing over 60 plays from his 2019 and 2020 film with him for this film room, I came away impressed with his football intelligence, the ability to convey what he’s seeing, and take ownership of mistakes even if they weren’t completely on him.
Jaimes finished his career with 40 consecutive starts (31 at LT, 9 at RT), including 9 of them coming as a true freshman which was the most for an offensive lineman in school history.
Topics we covered:
- The art of the jump set
- NFL teams discussing the potential for him to play all five positions on the line
- Toughest matchups (Chase Young, Shaka Toney, Jonathan Cooper)
- Using the snatch/trap technique based on the tendencies of an opponent
- Eliminating the ‘runway’ for power rushers
- Punishing jumpers
- Areas of improvement and self-scouting
Stay tuned for next week for my sit down in the film room with BYU LT Brady Christensen that will be available exclusively for subscribers.
